Dr. Mairead O’Reilly’s goal is simple. Give each patient a healthy, stunning smile and treat them in such a way that they leave her office “with the feeling that we made a difference in their day.”

Dr. O’Reilly and her associates lead a staff of dedicated, patient-centered professionals who employ the latest advances in the field of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology, Dr. O’Reilly provides orthodontic treatment that goes far beyond cosmetics. “We work in conjunction with all of our patient’s doctors -- general dentist, periodontist and prosthodontist -- in order to provide not only a fabulous smile, but also to achieve a harmonious and stable occlusion, within which the forces of chewing and biting will be balanced.”

Dr. O’Reilly received her initial college and dental training from Trinity College, University of Dublin, in Ireland, after which she joined The Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Hospital in London, treating children with various types of craniofacial anomalies. She was certified in orthodontics at the Eastman Dental Center in Rochester, New York, received an M.S. from the University of Rochester’s Graduate School of Medicine and Dentistry, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, and a fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists. She is also a past president of the Anne Arundel County Dental Society, and has been voted Best Orthodontist in Annapolis in 2005 and 2006.

In addition to her impressive credentials, Dr. O’Reilly continues to expand her knowledge of orthodontics with continuing education, including the study of dental occlusion in particular. “I believe that continuing education for doctors and staff is crucial in order to provide the highest quality and most up to date treatment approach,” she says. This ongoing education has taken her to some of the country’s most prestigious dental training centers, including the Panky Institute, Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study, the Piper Education and Research Center, the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education and the Eubank Teaching Institute.

And the world of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics is certainly changing. According to Dr. O’Reilly, “we now live in digital world and our practice reflects that. We no longer keep paper records, for instance, and with the advent of digital radiography, we’ve streamlined the x-ray process from hours to minutes. Images can now be emailed from our office to the patient’s dentist, enabling us to have a “real time” consultation about the patient’s needs, thereby reducing their overall treatment time. In addition, it is a tremendous benefit to our patients, in that it significantly cuts their radiation exposure.”

One of the newest fields in orthodontics is that of temporary orthodontic implants. Dr. O’Reilly explains that they have had a tremendous impact on how we deliver care to our adult patients. “Using a temporary implant, I can now move teeth that couldn’t be moved in the past. This has been an incredible advance in complex or multi-specialty cases. Inserting and removing the temporary implant is a five minute, simple procedure, and gives the patient very predictable results.”

While these advances have made a big difference within her practice, one thing hasn’t changed. “I want every patient to know that we will give them the utmost in specialty orthodontic care. And we will do whatever it takes to make their visit a great experience.”
